At the Plumes d’excellence 2025 gala, the equivalent of the Cap’Com Grands Prix in Quebec, the city of Saint-Charles-Borromée won two prizes: the Plume d’or in the digital communication category, and most importantly the highest distinction, the Grande Plume 2025, for his children’s day-care centre application.

It was during the 2025 symposium of the Association des communicateurs municipaux du Québec (ACMQ), held from 28 to 30 May last in Victoriaville, that Saint-Charles-Borromée, a town with a population of 15,000 inhabitants, situated between Montréal and Trois-Rivières to the north of the Saint-Laurent River, was doubly rewarded for its “Connected day camp” project.

An app to enhance families’ experience

This is an app for the parents of children enrolled in a day camp during summer. Each summer, parents have to juggle a multitude of pieces of information, such as times, reminders, urgent messages, presentations of the monitors, etc. This information, which had been sent out by paper or email until now, was easily forgotten or mislaid. The city of Saint-Charles-Borromée accordingly set out to enhance families’ experience while at the same time shrinking its environmental footprint and incorporating a simple and efficient digital solution.

The platform sends out general messages and activity-related announcements, while at the same time providing the means to spotlight the activity leaders and share summer memories. The app and the communication set up to familiarise families with its use achieved a satisfaction rate of 80%. This fine achievement on the part of the communications staff in Quebec regarding an issue encountered by many of their French colleagues in town halls will doubtless inspire the latter for an upcoming summer.
